Facility Enhancement Fund
Hope for Wildlife
At Hope for Wildlife it all begins with a DREAM
Hope for Wildlife began as a dream in Hope’s home on the East Coast of Canada. Since then, it has become a reality with a state-of-the-art facility that helps thousands of injured and orphaned wildlife every year. Hope for Wildlife has been able to grow, achieve our goals, and build a reputation of excellence in wildlife rehabilitation because of generous donors like you. When you donate to one of Hope for Wildlife’s Facility Enhancements, you contribute to the well-being of our community, the wildlife that lives in it, and the ecosystems they rely on to survive. We are always looking for ways to provide better care for our wildlife. A major part of that is ensuring we have modern facilities designed to provide a natural environment for the wildlife, thereby increasing the number of successful releases back into the wild.
We believe if we Dream It, we can Build It, and Grow It. However, we need your help. Our Facility Enhancements projects are listed below. If you are interested in supporting one of our projects, or have questions, please reach out to us using the link below.
Facility Enhancement Funding
Hope for Wildlife
-
Spaces Fund.
Every year Hope for Wildlife sees an increase in the number of wild patients coming through our doors. We need to create additional space to prevent the spread of disease, assist healing, and promote recovery. Larger, quiet, outdoor enclosures will allow us to place our wild patients in more secluded areas and let them truly explore the landscape they will experience upon release. These facilities allow patients to make a complete transition, preparing them as much as possible for their Freedom Day.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $1-2 Million
-
Take Flight Fund.
As cities expand there is an increase in human-wildlife interaction, resulting in more birds of prey than ever being brought to Hope for Wildlife. We need to be prepared to simultaneously handle more birds of prey. Holding units and flight cages help these patients use their wings as they prepare for release, rebuilding muscle that may have been lost while receiving medical treatment.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $500,000
-
Mammal Unit Fund.
As Hope for Wildlife continues to see record numbers of patients arriving for treatment, several additional and updated mammal rehabilitation units are required. The addition of our Marine Unit in 2018 saw marine wildlife release rates increase from 70% to 90% - highlighting the importance of updated recovery units for all our wild patients.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $150,000
-
Water for Wildlife Fund.
While the view of the ocean from Hope for Wildlife is beautiful, it does cause problems with our wells and water supply. Our drinking and tap water have high levels of arsenic, manganese, and salt. A full facility water treatment system will enable us to provide our staff, volunteers, visitors, and patients with access to safe water.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $75,000
-
Wi Fi for Wildlife Fund.
Hope for Wildlife’s medical database, emergency wildlife hotline, and business operations run on the internet and Wi-Fi. Our current setup has multiple networks with several “dead-zones” where we have no cellular or internet service. We want to set up a mesh network system covering our entire facility. Increased service for cell phones and Wi-Fi will improve staff safety and communication, benefit our patient records, and allow members of the public to have Wi-Fi access when visiting our facility.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $40,000
-
Drop Off for Wildlife Fund.
Hope for Wildlife provides emergency services across all of Nova Scotia. Every day members of the public and our network of volunteers transport wildlife to our facility from as far away as Yarmouth and the Cape Breton Highlands. We want to create a drop-off center at the Canso Causeway where patients can be triaged, receiving emergency stabilization and pain medication before their 4-hour journey to our hospital.
ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: $250,000
